তবে কি কারণে মানবদেহে এমন টিউমার বা ক্যান্সার হয় তার কারণ জানা যায়নি। আমাদের দেশে বেশ কিছু পরিচিত টিউমারে আক্রান্ত হওয়ার তথ্য পাওয়া যায়। নিচে বিভিন্ন প্রকার টিউমারের বিস্তারিত দেয়া হলো।


টিউমার তিন প্রকার :
হিস্টোমা বা কানেকটিভ টিস্যু টিউমার,
সাইটোমা
টেরাটোমা বা মিক্সড সেল টিউমার।
হিস্টোমা টিউমার আবার দুই প্রকার :
বিনাইন ও
ম্যালিগন্যান্ট।


বিনাইন টিউমার :
এ জাতীয় টিউমার তুলতুলে নরম হয় এবং শক্ত হয় না। খুব আস্তে আস্তে বৃদ্ধি পায়। এর কোনো আবরণ থাকে না। এর উপরের চর্ম আলাদা পৃথক মনে হয়। এ টিউমারের সংলগ্ন গ্রন্থিসমূহ আক্রান্ত হয় না। চাপ দিলে এতে কোনো যন্ত্রণা অনুভূত হয় না।


ম্যালিগন্যান্ট টিউমার :
এটা নিরেট বা শক্ত হয়। এটা খুব দ্রুত বড় হয়। এতে আবরণ থাকে। এটার উপরের চর্ম আলাদা পৃথক মনে হয় না। এ টিউমার সংলগ্ন গ্রন্থিসমূহ আক্রান্ত হয়। চাপ দিলে এতে যন্ত্রণা অনুভূত হয়। এতে আঘাত করলে বা অস্ত্রোপচার করলে ক্ষতি হয়। অস্ত্রোপচার করলে পরে প্রায়ই ক্যান্সার হতে দেখা যায়।

শরীরের বিভিন্ন স্থানে টিউমার বিভিন্ন নামে পরিচিত :
১. নাক, জরায়ু প্রভৃতি শৈ্লষ্মিক ঝিলি্লর টিউমারের নাম প্যাপিলোমা, 
২. জরায়ু, পাকস্থলী প্রভৃতি স্থানের মাংসপেশির টিউমারের নাম মাইওমা, 
৩. চর্মের টিউমারের নাম এপিথেলিওমা, 
৪. পিঠ, কাঁধ প্রভৃতি স্থানে ফ্যাটিটিস্যু টিউমারের নাম লিপোমা, 
৫. বোনের কার্টিলেজের টিউমারের নাম কনড্রমা, 
৬. মাথার খুলি, মুখম-ল, নাসিকা গহ্বর প্রভৃতি স্থানে হাড়ের অস্থি টিউমারের নাম অস্টিওমা, 
৭. মস্তিষ্ক কোষের টিউমারের নাম গ্লাইওমা, 
৮. মস্তিষ্ক, লিভার প্রভৃতি স্থানে রক্ত নালিকার টিউমারের নাম হেমান জিওমা, 
৯. ঘাড়, জিহ্বা, বগল প্রভৃতি স্থানের লসিকা নালির টিউমারের নাম লিমফ্যানজিওমা। সাধারণত কম বয়সে সার্কোমা টিউমার দেখা দেয়। সাধারণত ৪০ বছর বয়সের পর কার্সিনোমা টিউমার দেখা দেয়।


টিউমারের কারণ :
