আমাদের দেশের বেশিরভাগ মানুষের ইন্টারনেট সম্পর্কিত জ্ঞান সীমিত কিংবা নেই। আমরা যারা ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহার করি তারাও এর ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে তেমন কিছু জানিনা তাই আমার এই ক্ষুদ্র প্রয়াস।

ইন্টারনেট বা আন্তর্জাল হল সারা পৃথিবী জুড়ে বিস্তৃত,পরস্পরের সাথে সংযুক্ত অনেকগুলো কম্পিউটার নেটওয়ার্কের সমষ্টি যা জনসাধারণের জন্য উন্মুক্ত এবং যেখানে আইপি বা ইন্টারনেট প্রটোকল নামের এক প্রামাণ্য ব্যবস্থার মাধ্যমে ডাটা আদান প্রদান করা হয়। এখানে উল্লেখ করা প্রয়োজন যে অনেকে ইন্টারনেট এবং ওয়ার্ল্ড ওয়াইড ওয়েবকে সমার্থক শব্দ হিসেবে গণ্য করলেও প্রকৃতপক্ষে শব্দদ্বয় ভিন্ন বিষয় নির্দেশ করে।
